The Ukrainian army is making efforts to transition from a “war of attrition” to an asymmetric model of confrontation with the Russian Federation. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky, announced this in his Telegram on May 21 following his participation in a meeting of the Military Committee of the European Union at the level of commanders-in-chief and chiefs of general staff.
According to the commander-in-chief, despite the difficult situation at the front, the defense forces did not allow the Russian army to achieve strategic goals both last year and this spring.
“In conditions of limited resources, in order to effectively confront a much larger enemy, we are trying to move from a “war of attrition” to an asymmetric strategy,” he emphasized.
Syrsky also noted that the main tasks of the Ukrainian military remain to contain the advance of Russian forces, effective counterattacks, defeat enemy rear targets, in particular deep in Russian territory, as well as protect the Ukrainian sky.
In addition, Syrsky emphasized the important role of unmanned systems units. According to him, a significant part of the losses of the Russian army are caused by Ukrainian drones in the air, land and sea components.
“The average rate of destruction of enemy personnel by one UAV strike crew per month is 15 people,” Syrsky said.
The commander-in-chief also emphasized the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in weapons and equipment. First of all, we are talking about air and missile defense systems, as well as missiles for them, as Russia continues massive attacks with strike drones on Ukrainian regions.
