VIDEO What do you risk for ten extra minutes in traffic?

Every morning, the traffic in Bucharest looks the same: people in a hurry forcing the traffic lights, horns honking, aggressive lane changes and pedestrians crossing wherever they can. Almost every gesture comes from the same idea, that of “buying a little more time”, but many of the serious accidents in Romania start exactly from these apparently small decisions.
HotNews built this video based on the things we see everyday in traffic and which, unfortunately, almost all of us have come to consider normal. The material was created together with the Coalition for Road Safety, a platform that brings together organizations, companies, experts and institutions involved in prevention, road education and public policies related to traffic safety. The coalition aims to bring more attention to the real causes of accidents in Romania and to support measures that can reduce the number of victims on the roads.
The video features representatives of the Traffic Police, the Road Safety Coalition, some NGOs involved in road education and some companies that invest in prevention and defensive driving. The common point in all the statements is that serious accidents do not happen out of the blue, but begin with a hasty choice.
Data is hard to ignore. In the first three months of 2026, 669 serious road accidents took place in Romania, and 223 people died. In 2025, the average number of serious accidents exceeded 10 per day, and 1,293 people lost their lives on Romanian roads.
Every serious accident starts with a moment when someone thinks “that's how it goes”, and sometimes the difference between getting home and an accident is just a second of attention.
