Russia performed an influence surgery, stood in favor of the dissemination of a false entry on the Internet, in which the Denmark MP was to ask the Russians for help in the case of Greenland – said the Danish Service of the Military Intelligence FE on Friday.

“Denmark will not accept the secession of Greenland (…), we must ask Russia for help to prevent Greenland to prevent the US to prevent the US,” Post Post published in January on behalf of the Policy of the Socialist People's Party of Karsten Hoenge.

The message to which the real photo of the parliamentarian was used from his visit to Greenland was then widely reproduced on several social platforms.

According to the Danish military intelligence, “a false post originally came from an influencer, previously known for promoting Russian interests in Ukraine.” “The purpose of the entry was to use a public debate on Greenland and deteriorate relations between Denmark and the United States,” FE service assessed in a statement.

It has been added that this influence operation should be seen in a broader context, as part of Russia's actions aimed at causing disagreement in transatlantic relations and weakening Western support for Ukraine. The desire to influence the result of parliamentary elections in Greenland was considered less likely.

Diplomatic relations between Denmark and the United States remain tense since January after President Donald Trump's territorial claims against Greenland. The island is an autonomous territory depending on the authorities in Copenhagen.
