VIDEO The Prime Minister's warning to the Romanian-American Chamber of Commerce: “It will not be an easy year neither for you nor for the Government”

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan declared on Thursday that the Government of Romania is facing a “paradox” this year, in which it must decrease the budget deficit, but at the same time “keep our investments at a high value”, given that there are only a few months left in which the PNRR funds can be absorbed.
During the speech given at the General Assembly of the members of the Romanian-American Chamber of Commerce, the Prime Minister said that the year is “difficult”, considering “that we are in the continuation of a year of budget corrections”, but also the international context, “which is not very favorable, and our economy is influenced by what is happening”.
“Therefore, it will not be an easy year neither for you nor for the Government”, said Ilie Bolojan.
He warned that “we can no longer continue with the very large deficits, which create some major problems for us”, so that “in the next period” state expenses must be reduced.
“It's a paradox this year, we have to reduce the deficits, but keep our investments at a high value, among the highest, because it's a package of funds that we have to absorb, European funds, and it's a major challenge for us to absorb the 10 billion euros by the end of August,” added the prime minister, referring to the PNRR.
“Package of measures” in the field of energy
Ilie Bolojan said that the Government intends to come “with a package of measures” on the energy component.
“An important component is the energy area, everything related to fuels, in such a way that, on the one hand, on the energy side, we come up with a package of measures that will increase our energy production, set up the commercialization area and increase our storage capacity, so that we can lower energy prices in the next stage. This can be done and we must do it,” the prime minister continued.
Bolojan also stated that he wants “Romania to remain a country that is competitive from the point of view of business”.
“We will seek to remain in an area of predictability (…). I hope that the external crises that impact us do not last very long, in such a way that they do not disturb very much what means the balances related to inflation, related to economic growth”, he also declared.
