About 1.8 million Romanians are celebrating their name day on Thursday, of Saints Constantine and Elena, of which over 1.1 million are women and about 667,000 men, according to Agerpres.

According to the data provided by the General Directorate for Personal Records, the most common male name is Constantin – 416,627, followed by Cosmin – 116,691, Costel – 73,540, Costică – 22,993, Costin – 22,257 and Costinel – 10,475.

At the same time, 824,187 women bear the name Elena, Ileana – 92,020, Lenuta – 59,618, Constanța – 38,456, Ilinca – 30,798, Constantina – 18,716, Eleonora – 14,345.

On May 21, those with the names Constandina, Costica, Costina, Costinela, Ela, Eli, Ilenuș, Ilenuța, Ilina, Leana, Leanca, Lena, Leni, Nuța, Nuti, Nutica, Tanța, Tanți, Tănțica, as well as Constandin, Constanțiu, Costache, Costea, Costeluş, Costi, are also celebrated.

The Holy Great Emperors and Apostles Constantine and his mother, Elena, mentioned in the Orthodox Christian calendar on May 21, are the first Christian emperors. For the great contribution to the spread and flourishing of Christianity, Constantine and his mother were passed by the Orthodox Church among the saints and are considered “right with the Apostles”.
