On the eve of World Melanoma Diagnosis Day, the Krasnoyarsk Regional Oncology Center held the “Check the Mole” campaign. This was reported by the regional Ministry of Health.
Krasnoyarsk oncologists received and carefully studied almost 2000 letters with photographs of moles. 28 people were invited to a face-to-face appointment at the oncology clinic. Eight people were diagnosed with malignant neoplasms – four cases of melanoma, one case of squamous cell skin cancer and three cases of basal cell skin cancer. These patients were referred for further evaluation. Doctors will make the final diagnosis after surgical removal of the tumors and histology.
In addition, the authors of 10 more letters were given an appointment at the oncology clinic without an in-person portion of the campaign due to a clear suspicion of malignant neoplasms.
“If you find a formation on the skin that changes color, grows, becomes inflamed, itches or has discharge, consult a doctor at your local clinic, who will conduct an initial examination. Follow basic prevention measures. The main recommendation is to regularly protect your skin from excess ultraviolet radiation using products with SPF 30+. Maintain the habit of periodically self-examining your skin, such as every 6 to 12 months. Also, to maintain skin health, it is recommended to undergo a preventive examination with a dermatologist once a year,” Deputy Chief Physician for Outpatient Care Eduard Semenov told Krasnoyarsk residents about precautionary measures.
Let us remind you that this year participants in the “Check the mole” campaign in Krasnoyarsk and the region were offered to evaluate a skin tumor using a chatbot. The chatbot is still working, you can take the test using the link. Answering simple questions takes no more than five minutes. To start the test, you need to click the blue button with the robot in the lower right corner of the screen, then write the word “Mole” to the bot and follow the instructions. At the end of the test, the bot sends a document – a diagnostic card, which describes the level of cancer risk and makes recommendations.
Let us add that melanoma is in 18th place in the structure of cancer incidence in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. In 2025, 252 cases of melanoma were detected in residents of the region.
