Bright caps of zinnia inflorescences are possible not only in the open air. Many apartment residents grow them in flowerpots. But in order for the flowering to be truly bright and rich, it is important to know about 3 life hacks – the ideal composition of the soil, the appropriate volume of the pot and the right fertilizer, as described by the author of the Zen channel “Our Cozy Home”.
Life hack No. 1: Composition of soil for zinnias
The recipe for a suitable soil is as follows:
- high non-acidic peat – 7 l;
- garden soil – 2 l;
- perlite – 1 l;
- long-acting fertilizer – 2 tablespoons.
This soil is characterized by its looseness and ability to retain moisture. Even in hot weather, your zinnias will feel at ease.
Lifehack #2: Choosing a pot
The pot volume should be at least 10 liters per plant. Zinnias have powerful roots, so they need space to bloom beautifully.
And the pot itself can be placed in a stylish flowerpot – this way you will provide drainage and decorate the balcony.
By the way, watering zinnias should be regular, but without overwatering – 2 times a week in small volumes. Then the moisture will reach the roots, and will not lead to the closure of the soil crust, which is typical with rare and abundant watering. After watering, loosen the soil so that the roots receive more oxygen.
Lifehack #3: Fertilizer
At first, a long-acting fertilizer like Zion will do. This feeding will gradually feed the roots with useful substances without overfeeding the plants. Two tablespoons per hole are enough, and the young shoots will quickly grow, get stronger and delight you with the powerful formation of buds.
You can use other fertilizers if they contain phosphorus, potassium and some nitrogen.
