Wind farms will drive the economy. Poland can become a leader

The document was presented on Tuesday by the Polish Wind Energy Association (PSEW), Wind Industry Hub and CEE Energy Group.

Billions at your fingertips, but on one condition
Experts have no doubt: the financial potential is huge, but its implementation depends on accelerating the construction of wind farms in the country. — With the ambitious development of wind energy, our country can gain up to PLN 214 billion in added value – emphasized Janusz Gajowiecki, president of PWEA.
The co-author of the report, Maciej Mierzwiński, clarified that this amount is the sum of annual revenues of several billion zlotys, that Polish companies could generate in 2026-2040. However, for this scenario to come true, the market needs an impulse.
Dominika Taranko, vice-president of the Wind Industry Hub Foundation, indicated the condition. — This potential will not develop (…) unless we ensure a stable increase in projects annually from 1.5 GW to 2 GW — she pointed. This is a huge challenge, considering that in 2025, only 256 MW of wind capacity was added to the Polish energy system.
Poland stands for “local content”.
The participation of Polish companies in the construction of farms (so-called local content) is already impressive. In the area of preparation and construction, it is as much as 98 percent, and in services and maintenance of installations, it is approximately 75 percent. However, the biggest challenge remains the production technology of the turbines themselves. Currently, Poland does not produce these key elements, which limits the share of domestic entities in the components sector to only 25%.

The authors of the report propose solving this problem through four priority programs, focusing on raw materials and materials, farm construction, operation and maintenance and construction of turbines (the most ambitious point assumes cooperation with foreign investors or the creation of a fully Polish turbine).
A chance to be called the industrial base of Europe
However, the experts' ambitions go beyond the borders of Poland. The development of the domestic industrial and service base is to be a gateway to expansion into foreign markets. According to Dominika Taranko, our country has a unique opportunity to become an industrial base for all of Europe, where the market is many times larger and Western companies struggle with high operating costs and competence drain.
— The industrial and service base in Europe is insufficient. It is very difficult to scale this base in the so-called industrial core, i.e. Western Europe – says the expert. Taking advantage of this loophole could permanently change Poland's position on the economic map of the continent, making us a leader in green industrial transformation.
