The investigators announced on Saturday that “police officers of the Investigation Service of the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police, under the coordination of the case prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Bucharest Court of Appeal, executed a European arrest warrant issued by the judicial authorities in Iceland in the name of a 33-year-old Romanian citizen, wanted internationally for committing fraud and money laundering crimes.”

The person in question is being investigated by the Icelandic authorities because “between April 23 and 27, 2026, he would have exploited a vulnerability in the system of a banking institution in Iceland and would have illegally transferred large sums of money, the estimated damage being around 400,000 euros.”

On the basis of the European arrest warrant, the wanted person was spotted on the territory of Romania, the investigators also reported.

Initially, the man was detained for 24 hours and then remanded in custody for 30 days, with a view to extradition.
