No pricked hands: 3 varieties of thornless gooseberries – sea berries, sweeter than honey, 10 kg per bush

Previously, in order to enjoy the sweet berries of gooseberries, you had to sacrifice your hands – the thorns of this plant are incredibly prickly. But today, breeders have developed thornless varieties, which means you won’t face any scratches or pricked hands. Experts from the Max channel “Madame de Sade” shared the three best non-thorny varieties.

Such varieties have many advantages. Firstly, they are resistant to many diseases and pests. Secondly, they have powerful roots that go half a meter deep – which means they are not afraid of either frost or summer heat with dry weather. Thirdly, their berries are large, sweet and aromatic – just like in childhood.

#1: Freedonia

Perhaps this particular variety is distinguished by the most delicious berries with notes of wild strawberries, linden honey and pineapple. The berries are large, deep red, and do not fall off for a long time. The bushes grow up to 1.5 m in height and are not spreading, so you can harvest them once or twice. The harvest ripens in July, and up to 8 kg of berries can be harvested from one bush. The variety is resistant to fungi and frost.

No. 2: Amber

The variety got its name due to its yellow-orange sweet berries with a slight sourness and honey aroma. It reaches a height of 1-1.5 m, compact and dense, there are thorns, but they are single. From one bush you can get 10 kg of juicy berries. It is incredibly resistant to diseases and low temperatures.

#3: Spinefree

The thornless variety will delight you with sweet dark red berries, which can be eaten fresh or used for jam, marmalade or juice. Their weight reaches 4-7 g. The taste is sweet with a slight sourness. Resistant to frost and powdery mildew.
