Siegfried Mureșan (PNL), after the passing of the motion: “We have only one correct option: to stay away from this PSD-AUR majority”

PNL MEP Siegfried Muresan said on Wednesday that he asked his colleagues, during the party meeting on Monday evening, so before the motion of censure PSD-AUR was adopted, that the National Liberal Party remain outside the new parliamentary majority formed by PSD and AUR, which it considers an alliance “anti-reformist”.

“Since an anti-reformist majority was formed in the Romanian Parliament, we have only one correct option: to stay away from this PSD-AUR majority”, said Muresan, in a message published on Facebook.
The liberal argued that a possible association with the social democrats would seriously affect the credibility of the PNL both internally and in the relationship with European partners.
“A government with the PSD would be an anti-European government, not a pro-European government. The pro-European character of a party is proven by action, not by statements,” the MEP sent.
He recalled that, in recent years, the collaboration between the PNL and the PSD was difficult to explain on a European level and affected the image of the liberals.
“Always in recent years, when we went to Europe and tried to justify cooperation with PSD, we lost credibility. Europe did not forget that PSD is a party that in the past attacked European values, justice and European institutions”, Muresan emphasized.
In his intervention, the MEP insisted on the need for the PNL to assume the role of the main reforming force of the Romanian right and to capitalize on the upward trend of the last year.
He recalled that Ilie Bolojan took over the leadership of the party at a difficult time, when PNL was at an electoral score of only 8%.
“When he became the president of the party, Ilie Bolojan found us at 8%. In a week of campaigning he took us to 14%. In a year of government he took us to 20%. We can choose to grow with him or we can return to 8%”. Muresan declared.
He warned that entering the government alongside the PSD could marginalize the party on the political scene.
“If we go to government with the PSD, we will be squeezed between the AUR and a reforming political force that will be born. If we stay away from the PSD, we can be the leader of the reforming political force.” the MEP pointed out.
Official: PNL goes to the Opposition
We remind you that the PNL adopted a resolution on Tuesday night requesting the PSD to take over the government, after the fall of the Executive, and officially announced that it is moving into the opposition.
The PNL leader, Ilie Bolojan, said that the decision confirms the direction assumed by the party.
“Through today's decision, PNL confirms that it is a party with dignity, a party that will work in the coming years to build a pole of modernization and to contribute to modern Romania, to a Romania without privileges, without sinecures”, said Bolojan.
The document adopted by the statutory forums states that the liberals refuse any negotiation for the formation of a new government with the social democrats, considered “unreliable” partners, and calls on those who brought down the Bolojan Cabinet to assume the act of governing without running away from responsibility.
