Bathroom drains often become clogged due to hair, which a regular plunger does not remove, but only pushes further through the pipes. There are several simple ways to get them yourself, without disassembling the siphon and calling a specialist.
Method one – cocktail straw
Take a thick drinking straw, use scissors to make shallow cuts on it and bend the edges a little. Place it in the drain and scroll – the hair will wrap around the notches.
However, be careful: if you press hard, the tube may break and part of it will remain in the tube. The method works, but requires accuracy.
Method two – sushi stick
The principle is the same, but the stick is much stronger. Using a knife, make a herringbone notch towards the end (the whole stick won’t fit in the drain), lower it, twist it, pick up the hair and pull it out. This option practically does not fail: the hair comes out in a clump, and the wand does not break or get stuck.
Method three – if nothing is at hand
If there are no tubes or sticks, and the water no longer drains, you can use:
- plastic clamp – shallow cuts are also made on it;
- regular wire – bend it with a hook at the end, but be careful not to pierce the pipe.
Of all the options listed, the sushi stick has proven itself to be the best: it doesn’t get stuck, the notches stick, and the hair curls tightly. Keep one of these sticks next to the bathroom, and the clog problem will stop bothering you regularly, says the housewife, author of the blog “She Knows” (18+).
