How Alexandra Căpitănescu describes the song with which she will represent Romania at Eurovision. “We want to make all Romanians proud”

Alexandra Căpitănescu declared that the song “Choke Me”, with which she will represent Romania at Eurovision 2026, “is more than a song”. “It is our moment of liberation, our common energy and the chance to conquer the public”, said the artist before leaving for Vienna, according to a TVR press release.
Romania's representative at this month's music competition said she is going to Austria “after intense months of preparation for the semi-final on May 14”.
“We are ready to proudly represent Romania at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. We start with determination, constructive emotions, courage and a lot of enthusiasm towards the biggest music scene in Europe. 'Choke Me' is more than a song – it is our moment of liberation, our common energy and the chance to conquer the audience. We want to make all Romanians proud, both through our performance and by returning to the Eurovision stage,” she said, quoted by Agerpres.
“We can't wait to live this unique experience to the fullest”
The head of the delegation for the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 is Smaranda Vornicu. The delegation that went to Vienna on Sunday also includes Iuliana Marciuc, in charge of the project, and the artistic, technical, production and promotion team for Romania's participation in the competition.
Alexandra Căpitănescu and her bandmates, Bogdan Stoican, Luca Şofron, Matei Cohal and Thomas Cîrcotă, will take the stage.

We thank from the bottom of our hearts all those who have been with us during these months and who have contributed to our dream – that of bringing Romania back into the competition with strength and confidence. Romania will compete in the second semi-final
The semifinals of the competition will take place on May 12 and 14 and will be broadcast live by TVR 1. Alexandra Căpitănescu will sing in the second.
The final will take place on May 16.
Along with Romania, Albania, Denmark, Armenia, Cyprus, Switzerland, Norway, Azerbaijan, Luxembourg, Malta, Bulgaria, Australia, Ukraine, Czech Republic and Latvia will also compete in the second semi-final.
Romania's best rankings were the 2nd place, occupied twice (Luminiţa Anghel & Sistem – Kiev, 2005; Paula Seling and Ovi – Oslo, 2010), respectively the 4th position (Mihai Trăistariu – Athens, 2006).
