“US decision margin narrowed”. The message of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, after Trump's statements

The intelligence structure of Iran's Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) claimed, on Sunday, that a series of changes on the diplomatic stage have pushed Washington into a difficult situation, according to CNN.

From Iran's one-month deadline for the US to end its naval blockade to what the IRGC claims is a “change in tone” in Russia, China and European countries' relations with the United States, Iran's Guards say there is “only one way” to interpret these events.

“There is only one way to interpret this: Trump must choose between 'an impossible military operation or a bad deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran'. The margin of decision for the US has narrowed,” the IRGC wrote in a post on the X platform.

The American president announced on Saturday that he had been informed about the draft agreement with Iran, but that he was waiting for its exact wording. On the other hand, Trump warned that there is still the possibility of resuming attacks against the country if Tehran is not behaving properly, Reuters wrote.

“It all depends on the Americans”

Iran's ambassador to Pakistan says any progress in negotiations depends on a “change” in Washington's behavior.

Iran “remains determined to follow the path of diplomacy,” state news agency IRNA quoted Amiri Moghadam as saying on Sunday. “It all depends on the Americans,” he added.

“If they want to make progress in the negotiations, they have to change their behavior,” he added.

The situation between the two countries is still at an impasse since a ceasefire came into force on April 8, after nearly 40 days of Israeli-American attacks on Iran and Tehran's retaliation in the region, AFP wrote.

Mostafa Salem, a CNN reporter specializing in Middle East politics and regional affairs, wrote in an analysis that both Washington and Tehran are signaling that they have the capacity to endure a prolonged stalemate, even if it could force the rest of the world to pay a heavy price for a war it did not choose, given the economic effects of the conflict.

The fact that Iran appears unwilling to make a compromise acceptable to the US suggests that it is comfortable with the situation, despite the US naval blockade that threatens its economy. Trump, on the other hand, said he was “not in a hurry” and remained faithful to his naval blockade, even though some analysts believe it will take weeks before the necessary pressure can be exerted on an Iran that has gone through years of sanctions, the reporter also wrote.
