Why is the black smoke of Tuapse important?
What can Trump afford that Putin cannot afford? To be a “naked king”. Because Trump lives in a world of democracy, although he doesn’t like it. And power in a democracy is built on rules, institutions and procedures. And so you can do stupid things as much as you like. But for now you are the president. And you will be president. The whole world can see that “the king has no clothes” the moment you surrender or fall into Iran's trap. Or when you are simply suffering from obvious signs of dementia. But this affects the next elections. And before the elections, although you are naked, you are still the president. And you rely on the legal foundations of your power.
But in a totalitarian state, power is built on different principles. And Putin, as a typical totalitarian usurper, cannot afford to look weak. He cannot afford to be a “naked king.” Because power rests on strength.
And what better demonstrates Putin’s impotence than black smoke in Tuapse. And it’s very good that it all didn’t burn out right away. That the show goes on. Day after day.
Yes, the economic impact of such attacks will be limited. There is no need to deceive yourself here. Yes, oil refining in Russia is currently down to its lowest level since 2009. But thanks to Trump’s efforts, against the backdrop of the war with Iran, Russia is simply earning super profits by exporting the oil that it cannot process. Moreover, Trump is systematically easing sanctions.
But there is a psychological effect. When over and over again in the same place there is a direct demonstration of the weakness of the Russian dictator. Once is not a “naked king”, as they say. Anything can happen one time. And both voters and loving wives understand this. Cases are different. But when this happens on an ongoing basis, you realize that this is not an accident. That Putin simply cannot do anything about it. Of course I would. But he can't.
What kind of good king is this who is weak? What is his specialty then?
From the very beginning, Putin prefers that Russians associate him only with victories. At the beginning of his presidential career, he even came to tennis matches at the very end, when it was already clear that the Russian tennis player was winning. Because you can't be weak. You can't associate yourself with weakness. Once upon a time, Putin had a competitor, another KGB officer, but with experience. Primakov. His career ended when the Russians were shown some part of his operation. That's all. No magic. You can't get sick, you're weak. That's why Putin is still waging a senseless war. Because he can't complete it and looks weak.
And here Tuapse is smoking. The city is burning. And this smoke is probably visible even from his palace in Gelendzhik, where there is blackjack and everything else. And he can't do anything. And the picture is so bright. Noticeable. Instagram.
And this, of course, does not have to end tomorrow. He won't necessarily be found dead tomorrow in a puddle of his own urine. Although I would really like to. But the process must begin. Because the smoke of Tuapse, black smoke, in Russian realities signals to everyone that it is time to choose a new pope. Strong. And Putin understands this. And he can't do anything about it. And everyone understands that he understands, but at the same time he cannot change anything. And this is weakness.
This is how it works. That Trump is very jealous of Putin. And he sees, quite possibly, a role model in him. But at the moment, it is Putin who should be jealous of Trump. Because Trump may still be the “naked king” for several more years. And don't lose power. And then play golf again until nature takes its course. But Putin can’t do that.
