The local government of Gliwice is ordering the construction of the missing section of the city bypass, which will connect Bojkowska and Rybnicka streets – according to the city's information on Thursday. The Municipal Roads Authority is waiting for offers for the construction of the 1.7-kilometer connection until June 3 this year. Construction is expected to take just over two years.

Gliwice has a bypass for transit traffic, along the A4 and A1 motorways and in a significant part of the four-lane national road No. 88. The vast majority of the single-lane local bypass – marked out inside the transit bypass – is to be another element of the city's new communication system.

The last missing fragment of the city bypass is to be 1.7 km long and have one lane in each direction. On both sides – at ul. Bojkowska and Rybnicka – is to connect with the already constructed sections. The already designed road will complement the entire city bypass with a total length of approximately 10.5 km.

“The new section of the bypass will relieve the traffic on smaller streets, which are currently used by drivers using, among others, the huge Gliwice Sośnica motorway junction. It will also allow convenient movement between the districts of Gliwice, access to workplaces and leaving the city,” the city noted on Thursday.

As reported, the Municipal Roads Authority in Gliwice is conducting a tender for the construction of this section. The original deadline for submitting bids is June 3. Once the tender is settled, construction in the field can begin: according to ZDM, this stage will take just over two years.

So far, all remaining parts of the route have been built: on the one hand – from ul. Pszczyńska (from the Gliwice Sośnica motorway junction) to ul. Bojkowska, on the other – from al. Jana Nowak-Jeziorańskiego (DK 88) to ul. Sowińskiego, from ul. Sowińskiego to ul. Daszyńskiego and further to ul. Rybnicka.

Due to the construction of a new section at ul. Rybnicka it will be necessary to expand the intersection with traffic lights, while on ul. Bojkowska, the roundabout and a short section of the street running off it are already ready.

There will also be new exits to the Gliwice airport and the municipal Waste Management Company, and – similarly to other sections – a safe route for cyclists and pedestrians. Stormwater drainage and lighting, as well as bus bays, will be built.

According to previous information from ZDM, the construction of this road requires the removal of some trees growing on a strip of land that has been reserved for this purpose for over 40 years. The city is to take care of new plantings of trees and shrubs. (PAP)
