On April 28, at a state dinner in the East Room of the White House, King Charles III of Great Britain spoke about the second term of US President Donald Trump. The video was published by the New York Post on YouTube.
“I realize to my surprise that my first visit to this wonderful country was over 50 years ago. Mr President, the golden threads of history and heritage between our countries are also embodied in your own family, whose roots stretch back to the beautiful landscapes of Britain's Outer Hebrides and continue, as we know, on the magnificent golf courses of the Highlands,” the monarch began.
In his speech, the British monarch mentioned Trump’s mother, who, according to the US President himself, at one time had a crush on the young Prince Charles.
“I can only imagine the great pride with which your dear mother undoubtedly looks at the high office to which you have been elected for a second term. If I may, I am especially pleased to be back in this wonderful building, in the very heart of your democracy,” the king said, addressing Trump.
At the end of his speech, he presented the US President with a polished bell from a submarine, which brought Trump to “bliss and awe.” A special feature of the bell is that it is engraved with TRUMP 1944.
“The submarine Aukus, built in a British shipyard in 1944, had one predecessor, which spent most of its life with the fourth submarine squadron in Australia, playing a decisive role during the war in the Pacific. Her name? HMS Trump. Mr. President, I am pleased to present to you as a personal gift the original bell that hung on the conning tower of your gallant namesake. Let it be a testament to the common the history of our peoples and a shining future,” the monarch explained the symbolism of the gift. “If you ever need to contact us, call us.”
