Swiss Air plane aborts takeoff at nearly 200km/h after engine catches fire, six people injured
Six passengers were injured and hospitalized after a Delhi-Zurich Swiss Air flight aborted takeoff and was evacuated on the runway at Indira Gandhi International Airport early Sunday, according to the Economic Times and Reuters.
The incident occurred when one of the aircraft's engines failed and caught fire while attempting to take off, prompting the crew to ground the aircraft and initiate an emergency evacuation.

The Airbus A330, which was operating flight LX147, had 232 passengers on board, including four young children, as well as crew members, according to the Times of India.
The aircraft was accelerating on runway 28 at around 01:08 when the failure occurred.
According to flight tracking data, the aircraft had reached a speed of 104 knots (192 km/h) before the crew aborted takeoff.
What Swiss Air said:
“Six passengers are currently receiving medical attention and the crew is safe. All passengers and crew members were evacuated from the aircraft on the emergency chutes. Six passengers are currently undergoing medical evaluation. Stairs have been made available for the small number of people who were unable to use the chutes.”
Passengers are currently being assisted. Local teams are working hard to arrange alternative bookings or hotel accommodation for our passengers. They have been given business cards to ensure we can reliably contact them. Such a situation is stressful for everyone involved. Our local teams look after our passengers on site and are in direct contact with them. We work closely with local authorities.
We are determined to fully understand what led to this incident. SWISS technical specialists will travel to Delhi to inspect the aircraft and initiate the next steps. At the same time, we are working hard to find quick and appropriate solutions for the continuation of the journey for all passengers. The safety of our passengers and crew is always our top priority.”
