What the Russian ambassador in Bucharest said after the incident in Galați. Oana Țoiu: “Even he couldn't completely deny that it was their drone”

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Ţoiu, declared, on Antena 3, after summoning the ambassador of the Russian Federation to Romania, that it was the first time that he could not deny “completely” the fact that the drone that entered Romania's airspace was theirs.

“It is obvious, and you also know from the statements of the Minister of Defense, Radu Miruţă, that we know very clearly that it is a Russian drone and in this sense we have no question marks. It is the first time in the discussions with the ambassador of the Russian Federation that even he could not completely deny the fact that the drone that entered Romania's airspace is theirs”, said Ţoiu on Antena 3 CNN.

According to her, the Russian ambassador reiterated the position that Russia would not have targets on the territory of Romania or NATO.

“Regarding the ambassador's answer, he reiterated that the Russian Federation has no planned targets on the territory of Romania, on the territory of the EU or NATO, that it does not have the possibility at this moment to confirm that that drone belongs to them, but they also had no elements on the basis of which they could deny this,” said the head of Romanian diplomacy.

“We understand them when they say it wasn't intended, but it's not relevant”

Oana Ţoiu pointed out that Romania strongly condemns the incident in which a Russian-made drone entered the national airspace, stressing that this act represents a violation of international law.

“I conveyed to (the ambassador of the Russian Federation in Romania – no), through my colleagues from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the level of the Director of Space, that we strongly condemn this gesture by Russia, even if we understand them when they say that it was not intentional. This is not at all relevant, because the violation of the airspace, the risk they generated for the lives of civilians, the civil infrastructure, and anyway, the fact that this drone arrived in the airspace of Romania after it was sent to attack the civilian infrastructure in Ukraine, all these things violate International Law”, declared the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Ţoiu emphasized that there are no doubts regarding the origin of the drone, it being identified as being of Russian manufacture.

“In general, the position that they falsely try to propagate in the public space is that the fault in general belongs to Ukraine. On the other hand, it is as clear as possible that they are the ones who attack both civil infrastructure and have caused the loss of human lives, of civilians, children, they have attacked hospitals, maternity hospitals, ambulances. From the perspective of Romania or from the perspective of NATO or the EU, there is no dilemma that this war is one of political aggression illegally waged by Russia”, he declared the minister.
