The directorate of the Krasnoyarsk Pillars National Park reported that wild dogs killed another deer.
The animal died in the area of the Central Entrance – in the Laletino stream, in the Devil's Finger area, just tens of meters from Sverdlovskaya Street. The victim was a young roe deer.
“This is already the 24th individual of wild ungulates that died from a dog attack during the winter period of 2025-2026. This figure exceeded the previous “record”: in the winter season of 2024-2025, 22 roe deer and deer died due to dog attacks,” the directorate noted.
In total, about 100 wild animals have died from dog attacks over the past 7 years. In addition to deer, roe deer and musk deer, the list also includes foxes.
“Over the entire 100-year period of existence of the specially protected natural area, even poachers have not caused such significant damage. The problem of attacks by stray dogs on animals in the territory of Stolby was raised back in the 1930s, 1960s and later. At that time, security officers (rangers, foresters) had legislative “instruments” to resolve this issue. Currently, government inspectors have no authority to do anything with dogs other than preventive measures. And even expanding their powers is unlikely to completely eliminate the problem,” representatives of Stolby note.
Statistics show that most attacks occur not in the national park itself, but in the security zone. Deer go there in search of food when the weather is unfavorable. It is in this zone that animals meet dogs, which perceive ungulates as objects of hunting, and sometimes “entertainment.” State inspectors do not and cannot have any authority to resolve issues related to dogs in the city.
“The result of the “hunting season” for dogs directly depends on the weather (climatic) conditions of the season. With abundant snow cover and unstable spring weather, when the temperature fluctuates, the snow becomes compacted and a crust forms. This crust is destructive for ungulates and is a “helper” for poaching dogs, making it easier for them to hunt,” the national park notes.
If you have witnessed a dog attack on a wild animal or noticed a pack of dogs on the territory of Krasnoyarsk Pillars, please immediately report this to the national park security department by phone (391) 261-16-95. If you find a dog victim in a city area, call 005.
