21 April 12:59
In the Okinsky district of Buryatia, an investigation is being carried out into the death of three tourists who were climbing in the Eastern Sayan mountains. According to preliminary data, they died from hypothermia, reported the regional Sustainable Safety Inspectorate of the Russian Federation.
A group of 15 tourists arrived from Krasnoyarsk to the village of Mondy to climb the Munku-Sardyk peak. On April 18, they left the base camp on a route that ran to the bridge over the White Irkut River, and then, bypassing the confluence of the White Irkut and Muguvek rivers, to the summit.
The group's return was planned for April 22 at noon. However, on the night of April 21, several tourists went to the highway at the foot of the mountains and left a note in the cafe about the death of three people during the descent. After that, they climbed back to the scene.
In the morning, the owner of the cafe passed information to the emergency services, after which a rescue team moved out to the tourists.
Currently, investigators from the Investigative Committee are establishing the circumstances of the incident, and also checking the conditions for organizing the route and compliance with safety measures during the ascent.
