“I didn't think it was possible.” What happens when you let an AI model control your computer

A journalist from the specialized site XDA Developers experimented with Claude Code on his computer for a week, and the results surprised him.

Claude Code, developed by the company Anthropic, is an artificial intelligence-based coding assistant that can execute commands, write codes, run and deploy changes directly to your files on your PC.

“When I first downloaded Claude Code, I didn't expect to be really impressed. I mean, it's called Claude Code, after all, it was obvious that he couldn't do anything but write code. However, after I started exploring it, I realized that you can do things with Claude Code that aren't necessarily related to programming,” says XDA Developers journalist Simon Batt.

Batt says he “had a blast” the week he used Claude Code and claims he was able to do things he thought he could do with it.

For example, he says that Claude Code can be used for a lot of tasks, not just programming.

“One of the first little tests I did was very simple. I asked Claude Code to connect to my computer, open Calculator, do an add operation, then put the result into Notepad. I had to do some setup first; it needed Git to run, and I had to give it permission to use my computer. But once everything was ready, I could just give Claude the command.” explains the journalist.

How Claude Code did in Paint

Claude Code can also draw in Paint.

“I asked him to draw a cute kitty. I wasn't sure what to expect, after all, Claude's mouse control is quite limited. He can't draw with fine lines and updates himself using intermittent screenshots. It seems Claude had an amazing idea: he downloaded Pillow from Python to do the job,” says Simon Batt.

“Your best friend for lazy moments”

Simon Batt says his favorite role was 'Dispatch'.

“This allows you to connect your phone to your computer and send commands to Claude. Claude will then use the 'Claude Code' to complete the task and let you know both when it's done and if it runs into any problems.” Of course, this opens up a lot of possibilities, like asking Claude to start a server while you're away, check the status of your computer, and even upload files to the cloud so you can access them from your phone,” he adds.

Finally, the journalist says that this AI can make you “very lazy too”.

“Imagine: you're lying in bed and you want to play World of Warcraft. You send a message to Claude Code via Dispatch to start the game and connect with a certain character. You wait a while, then you get the message that it's finished. You get on your PC and indeed, Claude has opened the game,” concludes Batt.
