According to PMB representatives, the decision was taken following the request from the mayor of the Capital, Ciprian Ciucu.

“Even if the sector town halls authorize the locations of the billboards, and the companies that own them make contracts and put up paid advertisements, the mayor made the decision to intervene. So all the billboards of the three display companies will be neutralized”PMB said in a message posted on Facebook.

The mayor of the capital demands the removal of billboards with anti-caesarean section messages

The announcement comes after Mayor General Ciprian Ciucu informed, on Saturday, that two of the largest outdoor advertising companies in Bucharest have agreed to remove the anti-Caesarian messages from the billboards they have in the Capital, following a request from the local authorities.

“At our request, through the Bucharest Local Police, two large outdoor advertising companies comply and have agreed to take down the anti-Caesarean message from all the billboards they have in Bucharest. One in the central area and the other in the rest of the city. There is another company that has billboards with this type of message in Sector 3, but they have not sent us any response so far”Ciprian Ciucu sent on FB.

He also emphasized that he supports freedom of expression, but considers it essential that messages in the public space are aligned with scientific data and medical recommendations, adding that the situation led him to analyze the possibility of amending the regulation on street advertising, so that there is a mechanism for subsequent intervention in similar cases.

Specialists sound the alarm

The Romanian College of Physicians warned last week that the messages on the billboards in Bucharest regarding cesarean delivery are “lacking scientific foundation” and emphasizes that publicly disseminated medical information must be correct, complete and scientifically validated.

The institution emphasized that “recommendations regarding the medical act must belong exclusively to professionals in the field, respecting the limits of competence”and these must be “based on sound scientific evidence, clinical guidelines recognized by the scientific community and good medical practices, adapted to the particularities of each individual case”.
