Six people were killed and 10 injured in an attack by a man who started shooting at people in Kiev on Saturday; the attacker was eliminated by the police, authorities said. The victims were civilians, ordinary people, emphasized the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

In the Holosiiv district of Kiev, a 58-year-old resident of Moscow opened fire, killing five people, then barricaded himself in a supermarket room and took hostages, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine reported. According to preliminary data, the attacker used automatic weapons. He died during an assault carried out by the KORD special police unit.
Five people died on the street and in the supermarket, and a woman, who was one of the 10 shooting victims transported there, died in hospital – said the mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko.
Zelensky wrote earlier in X that ten people were known to have been hospitalized with wounds and injuries. “Everyone is being provided with the necessary assistance. Four hostages were saved,” the president added.
The Ukrainian leader noted that he counts on the quick investigation by police investigators and the Security Service of Ukraine. The president instructed the minister of interior and the police chief to provide the public with all verified information about the case.
Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said that before the attack, negotiators tried to establish contact with the attacker.
