The match between Lens and PSGwhich could be decisive in the fight for the Ligue 1 title, has been officially scheduled by the French Professional Football League for May 13. The match will be played between the 33rd and 34th (last) stages of the French championship, with the starting time to be determined later.
The final schedule of the meeting was decided after PSG qualified for the semi-finals of the Champions League, achieved on Tuesday against Liverpool with an aggregate score of 4-0 (2-0 in both legs). This qualification to the next stage of the competition made it impossible to play the match on 6 May, a date which had been considered in case the Parisians had been eliminated.
Lens – PSG, the match that can decide the champion in France, scheduled for May 13
This match, related to the 29th stage, had originally been scheduled for April 11. However, it was postponed at the request of PSG so that the team could prepare as well as possible for the European double against the “Cormorants”, a decision that met with opposition from Lens and generated quite a bit of controversy in France.
The decision was a controversial one, given that Lens and PSG are in direct battle for the Ligue 1 title, with the difference between the two being just 4 points.
Joseph Oughourlian, the president of Lens, opposed the original postponement of the game, arguing that the decision represented a lack of “fairness” between the Ligue 1 teams. The controversy intensified last month with allegations of the disproportionate power PSG wields over French football and the Professional League itself.
In the round match, the Parisians prevailed on their own ground with a score of 2-0.
