Sisters Carla and Crystal, both 18 years old, did not spend any separate day and were euthanized together “with dignity and peace”, Surrounded by their devoted caretakers, said Yorkshire Wildlife Park.

The condition of Carla had not improved after a recent fall, and Crystal, who was fighting with age -related diseases, “She would not have done without her sister next to her ”, said the representatives of the park, writes BBC.

These were the last of the 13 lei, between a year and 27 years old at the time, which were saved from the narrow concrete enclosures from the Zoo in Oradea and brought to Doncaster.

“The best decision”

“The welfare of the animals is in the center of everything we do,” the park representatives said.

“After extensive consultations with our veterinary and animal care teams, the most gentle decision to let them go together.”

The staff stated that the two were “very loved by all“And that they will be “Very longing”.

The lions were to be euthanized if they were not found a new house, because the Zoological Garden in Oradea could no longer afford to maintain them.

At the Romanian Zoological Garden, the adult lions were held in a 4m x 4m cage.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster then launched a public call to gather 150,000 pounds, and people's solidarity made the transport of lions in England possible, with a specially adapted plane, donated by JET2. After landing, the animals were transported to their new house: a specially built complex, within the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, where they lived in conditions close to the natural ones.

15 years ago, director Daiana Ghender, who initiated the steps to save them, said it was “Excited“To see the first steps on the natural field, after they had lived their whole life on the concrete.

Two male lei in the group, Simba and Ares, died in 2023, at the age of 14 and 15, and Leoaica Julie, aged, died the following year.
