Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Monday condemned US President Donald Trump's remarks about Pope Leo, saying the Supreme Pontiff's calls for peace are “correct”.

“I find President Trump's words about the Holy Father unacceptable. The Pope is the head of the Catholic Church and it is right and normal for him to call for peace and condemn all forms of war,” Giorgia Meloni said in a statement.

US President Donald Trump harshly attacked the head of the Catholic Church. Pope Leo is terrible at foreign policy, Trump said.

Donald Trump wrote a long message on his own social network Truth Social in which he attacks the leader of Catholics around the world.

“Pope Leo is weak on crime and terrible on foreign policy. Talk about “fear” of the Trump Administrationbut it doesn't mention the fear that the Catholic Church and all other Christian organizations had during COVID, when they were arresting priests, pastors and everyone else for holding religious services, even when they went outside and were at a distance of three or even six meters. I like his brother Louis a lot more than him because Louis is totally MAGA. He understands and Leon doesn't,” Trump wrote.
