Ghanaian football is in mourning following the death of Berekum Chelsea striker Dominic Frimpong, who died at the age of 20 in a gun attack on Sunday.
The tragic incident took place while the team coach was returning from a Ghanaian league match against Samartez, 0-1, in which Frimpong had started.

The coach was the target of shots fired by the attackers when it was trying to turn. Frimpong was shot in the head and later died at the hospital, being the only victim of the incident, according to abola.pt.
According to the Berekum Chelsea club, the team was attacked by “masked individuals armed with pistols and assault rifles”.
The GFA officially reacted to the tragedy, expressing its deep regret for the loss of the young athlete.
“The Ghana Football Association has received with deep shock and great sadness the tragic news of the death of Dominic Frimpong, of Berekum Chelsea Football Club,” the statement read. “The incident has shocked the entire football community. The GFA extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, his teammates, technical staff, management and all members of the Berekum Chelsea club at this extremely difficult time.”
Dominic Frimpong had a market share worth 25,000 euros, according to the specialist website transfermarkt.com. In the current season, the striker had played 13 games, during which he scored twice. He had also played for Ghanaians Aduana Stars FC in his career.
