An attacker stabbed three people with a machete on the New York City subway. He called himself “Lucifer”

He repeatedly refused police requests to drop his weapon. Law enforcement officers tried to calm the man and offered him psychological help, however, when he began to approach them, one of the officers shot him twice. The attacker was later identified as 44-year-old Anthony Griffin, and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to surveillance footage, Griffin's first victim was an 84-year-old man, who cut his head with a machete. The second victim was a 65-year-old man whose skull was fractured by the attacker. Another woman suffered cuts to her shoulder. All three victims were hospitalized in stable condition with what police described as “life-threatening” injuries.

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani commented on the incident on the social network X, thanking the police for their quick response and “preventing additional violence.”
