Many summer residents firmly believe that potatoes will not grow without manure. However, in practice, such fertilizer often leads to the opposite effect – the tubers grow small, loose and too watery.
The author of the channel “At Grandfather Egor’s Dacha” (18+) advises to abandon manure, compost and even store-bought fertilizers in favor of one simple remedy. It should be added directly to the hole when planting.
We are talking about wood ash. This is a real natural concentrate of benefits: phosphorus, potassium and calcium in its composition stimulate the growth of potatoes, deoxidize the soil, create unbearable conditions for wireworms and mole crickets, and at the same time strengthen the plant’s immunity.
How to use
Before planting, pour a handful of ash into each hole, mix with soil, lay the tuber and cover with soil. You can also make liquid fertilizer. To do this, you need to dilute 1 glass of ash in 10 liters of warm water and leave to infuse for a day. Water the bushes at the roots with the prepared product once every 2 weeks.
Life hack from an experienced gardener
The summer resident advises lightly dusting the tops with ash in the morning. This helps get rid of the Colorado potato beetle without unnecessary chemicals. Thus, ordinary ash works as complete protection and nutrition in one bottle.
