A second foreign language may become compulsory in Russian schools

The Russian Ministry of Education plans to make a second foreign language compulsory for study in schools. This follows from the draft ministry order, which TASS studied.
According to media reports, the Council of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation on federal state educational standards of general and secondary vocational education has already approved the draft Federal State Educational Standard for secondary general education. It is planned to begin its implementation on September 1, 2027.
The document sets out in detail the curriculum of secondary general education, where compulsory study of a number of subjects is established at the basic and advanced levels. The list includes: Russian language, literature, native language (the language of the people of the Russian Federation) or the state language of the republic of Russia, native literature (literature in the language of the people of the Russian Federation), foreign language, second foreign language, mathematics, computer science, history, social studies, geography, physics, chemistry, biology, physical culture and the fundamentals of security and defense of the Motherland.
Let us remind you that it became known earlier that from September 1, 2027 in Russia, students in the 10th and 11th grades will have the opportunity to study all subjects only at a basic level without reference to a narrow profile.
