Early motherhood
Tonya Matvienko became a mother for the first time in 1998 – at that time she was 17 years old. According to the artist, society’s reaction to her earlier motherhood broke her.
“I walked and they pointed a finger at me: “Prostitute.” I survived nothing,” the singer recalled that period in an interview with ZhVL five years ago.
The singer broke up with her first husband 10 years after the birth of her daughter – after her parents separated, her daughter Ulyana remained with her father, and the singer herself completely lost her hair from her experiences. She was worried that her 10-year-old daughter had chosen her father, not her. According to the singer, relations with Ulyana improved when she met Mirzoyan and became pregnant.
“I told Ulyana that I was pregnant. And this played a huge role,” the artist recalls.
In 2023, in an interview with Ukrainian blogger Slava Demin, Tonya Matvienko admittedthat she does not communicate with her first husband and is very offended by him.
Meeting Mirzoyan
Matvienko met Mirzoyan on the “Voice of the Country” project on “1+1”, where they both took part. At the time of their acquaintance, Mirzoyan was married, raised two sons and lived in Zaporozhye. The news that they were having an affair became a sensation in show business.
“Mirzoyan left his wife for Tony Matvienko,” Ukrainian media wrote.
“I didn’t pull his ears. This is Arsen’s decision,” Matvienko commented on the situation to TSN journalists then.
The singer’s mother, People’s Artist of Ukraine Nina Matvienko, sided with her daughter.
“There is fate and fate cannot be avoided,” she said.
Mirzoyan's version
In an interview with “Snidanok z 1+1” seven years ago, Mirzoyan admitted that he met Matvienko at rehearsals for the show “The Voice of the Country.” Then the singer hooked him by not saying hello to him.
“I think, wow, FIFA,” he shared his memories.
Mirzoyan admitted that what attracted his future wife most of all was his eyes.
Marriage proposal
In January 2016, Matvienko and Mirzoyan had a daughter, Nina. When the child was one and a half months old, the singer proposed marriage to his chosen one. Everything happened on the eve of March 8 during Mirzoyan’s solo concert in Kyiv, the “1+1” channel reported..
Judging by the artist’s reaction, the recognition came as a complete surprise to her. The singer responded to the marriage proposal with a confident “yes.”
“I negotiated with myself for a long time. This is not three months of falling in love. Let’s call it six months of falling in love, and then another difficult year to accurately weigh whether you take this step or not. And if you don’t take it, how will you live on,” Mirzoyan admitted in an interview with Demin in 2023, commenting on his decision to marry Matvienko.
Vinnik is the toastmaster, and Ponomarev sang the wedding song
Matvienko married Mirzoyan on June 15, 2017. The wedding became a high-profile event in show business – the event was hosted by Ukrainian singer Oleg Vinnik, and the wedding song for the newlyweds was performed by Alexander Ponomarev.
At that time, their daughter Nina was already one and a half years old, and Tony Matvienko’s daughter from her first marriage was almost 19 years old. They both attended their mother's wedding.

The second marriage was on the verge of divorce
After the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the aggressor country of the Russian Federation, Tonya Matvienko went abroad with her children, and already in April rumors appeared that the couple had separated. At first, Mirzoyan and Matvienko denied everything, but four years later they admitted that they were really on the verge of divorce..
“Even very strong couples go through fatigue, misunderstanding, difficult periods. For Arsen and me, it was probably a moment of deep rethinking, when you face a choice: destroy everything or try to save it,” she explained. “It’s easy to break a family, but then it’s no longer possible to put it back together the way it was. Therefore, when you have the realization in your head that family is truly the most valuable thing, you begin to look at many things differently.”
The singer added that when the question of divorce arose, they were not together.
“Then the circumstances turned out that we were at a distance. This time gave us the opportunity to think, to be separate, to hear ourselves. And then it was as if we started all over again. The main thing is that if we decided to move on, not to remember what happened,” the artist emphasized.
Today Mirzoyan and Matvienko can be called one of the strongest couples in show business. They went through many trials and chose to be together not only in life, but also on stage – the couple recently completed joint tour of Ukraine.
