Ban on exporting gasoline from Russia. New regulations from April 1

Russia's Ministry of Energy has been ordered to prepare a draft regulation blocking the export of gasoline abroad.

The ban is to apply from April 1 – the government in Moscow said on Friday. State media reports that the restriction will remain in force until July 31, 2026.

Aleksandr Nowak pointed to the instability of the global market for crude oil and petroleum products as the main reason for the decision. The Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that the crisis in the Middle East leads to significant fluctuations in the prices of energy raw materials. At the same time, he emphasized that the great interest in Russian energy carriers on international markets is a positive factor for the domestic economy.
The government announced in a statement that oil processing would be maintained at last year's level. This is to guarantee stable supply of fuel products for domestic customers.
Reuters reminds that last year several regions of the Russian Federation and the occupied areas of Ukraine were struggling with fuel shortages. The situation was worsened by Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries and a seasonal increase in demand. The agency notes that Moscow has often resorted to export restrictions on gasoline and diesel oil to stop rising prices and remedy deficits on the internal market.

Industry data shows that Russia exported nearly 5 million tons of gasoline in 2024, which corresponds to approximately 117,000. barrels per day.
