The Foundation awards the award every year – in the past, it went to people who supported the Lukashenko regime or sympathized with Russia.
He heads the foundation Dmitry Belyakov, a former agent of the Belarusian KGB, who said in the foundation's announcement that the award was to go to those who “fight for true democracy.”
The choice of the winner, Grzegorz Braun, therefore raises questions about the nature of this award, its intentions and the message it carries for recipients – especially in the context of the Polish political scene.

This is not the first procedure of this type against policy. Already in May this year, the European Parliament decided to revoke Braun's immunity in connection with proceedings regarding, among others, his intervention at the Hanukkah candlestick in the Sejm and other controversial events.
In the application currently under consideration, Braun is also accused of publicly inciting religious hatred on the Internet and insulting religious feelings. This concerns an interview given on YouTube, in which he referred to, among others, to the event of December 12, 2023, when he used a fire extinguisher in the Sejm to extinguish a Hanukkah candle.
