— Great news. At 5 a.m. the first four trucks entered Lithuania, and the next ones are heading towards the border – said Erlandas Mikenas, president of the Lithuanian Carriers Association “Linava”.
Conflict on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border
Lithuania closed its border crossing with Belarus on October 30, 2025. The decision was explained by smuggling of balloons across the border. A day later, on October 31, the authorities in Minsk responded with a ban on Lithuanian trucks.
Vilnius reopened two border crossings on November 20, but Belarus continued to block the return of Lithuanian vehicles. The situation was unblocked by Alexander Lukashenko, who announced on Friday that the trucks would start returning on Monday.

Carriers' losses amount to millions
The Lithuanian Carriers' Association estimates that about 1,470 vehicles are stuck in Belarus. Financial losses incurred by transport companies may amount to up to EUR 22 million.
Some carriers also face parking fees imposed by the Belarusian authorities. “Someone has to be responsible for the damages suffered by carriers,” Mikenas said. The association is considering legal steps to recover compensation for the losses incurred.
