The fire broke out on Sunday afternoon at the interface between Augustów and Moniec. “We are dealing with a very serious situation in the Augustów poviat, near Polków,” the voivode of Brzozowski told journalists. As he said, the fire covers over 60 ha and is not controlled. “The situation is dynamic, the weather and dryness of the ground do not help,” he added.

The State Fire Service said in the evening that over 150 PSP and TSO firefighters are involved in activities, they are supported by park services and forest services; Until dark, the helicopter and firefighting aircraft of State Forests also took part in the action.

The voivode announced that at the request of the Provincial Commander of the State Fire Service, he appointed a crisis staff associated with this fire, which also includes the police and the army, including WOT and representatives of the State Forests. He said that additional LP helicopters and Black Hawk Police would also be included in the action.

On Sunday evening, the number of firefighters will increase, among others Officers of the Fire Academy from Warsaw, soldiers of the Territorial Defense Forces may also be included in the action.

Three weeks ago, nearly 90 ha of reeds and dry grasses on the border of the Podlasie poviats of Augustów and Sokólski burned down; The action with the participation of over 120 firefighters lasted several hours. A few days ago, another fire in BPN covered an area of ​​8-9 ha.

Firefighters point out that the largest fire in the history of the Biebrza National Park, which took place five years ago and covered about 5,000. ha of the surface, extinguished for many days, began in a place similar to the place of Sunday fire. (PAP)
