Hungary and Slovakia to build 127 km pipeline between their oil refineries: “It can protect against the consequences of world wars”

Hungary and Slovakia will build a direct connection between their oil refineries in Százhalombatta and Bratislava in an energy project aimed at strengthening the security of fuel supply in the region. The announcement was made on Monday, in Brussels, by the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Péter Szijjártó.

The Hungarian official stated that during the day he signed an agreement with the Slovak Minister of Economy, Denisa Saková, for the construction of a new pipeline that will connect the two refineries. The statement came after the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union.
According to Minister Péter Szijjártó, the project envisages the construction of a pipeline of approximately 127 kilometers, capable of transporting up to 1.5 million tons of petroleum products per year, mainly diesel and gasoline.
“This will be a further added value for Hungary's energy supply and can protect against the consequences of world wars and wrong policies of Brussels,” said the Hungarian minister.
Construction of the pipeline would be completed in the first half of next year, according to Slovakian agency TASR.
The head of diplomacy from Budapest claimed that the project will increase the energy independence of the two states and protect them from external pressures.
“By connecting the oil refineries in Bratislava and Szazhalombatta (…), both Hungary and Slovakia will be more protected from the kind of blackmail we are currently experiencing from the Ukrainians, with the support of Berlin and Brussels”, said Szijjártó.
