The interviews at the CSM begin with the prosecutors proposed to head the large prosecutor's offices. The last step before a decision by Nicușor Dan

The section for prosecutors of the Superior Council of the Magistracy (CSM) has scheduled for Tuesday, March 10, the interviews with the prosecutors proposed by the Minister of Justice, Radu Marinescu, at the head of the General Prosecutor's Office, DNA and DIICOT.
The section for prosecutors of the CSM issues a reasoned advisory opinion, after which these proposals are submitted to Nicuşor Dan. The president has the final say in the appointment of prosecutors to head the grand prosecutor's offices.
The schedule of hearings from the CSM
The first to give an interview in front of the CSM on Tuesday is Codrin Horatiu Miron, selected by the Minister of Justice for the position of head of the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism, reports Agerpres.
The interviews will continue in the following days, but also next week, as follows:
- March 11 – Alex Florența and Gill-Julien Grigore-Iacobici – for occupying two positions of deputy chief prosecutor of DIICOT;
- March 12 – Cristina Chiriac – proposed for the position of general prosecutor and Marius Voineag – deputy of the general prosecutor;
- March 16 – Ioan Viorel Cerbu – for the position of chief prosecutor of the National Anti-Corruption Directorate;
- March 17 – Marinela Mincă and Marius Ionel Ştefan – two positions of Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the DNA.
A number of 19 candidates participated in the selection organized by the Ministry of Justice, between January 8 and March 2, for the appointment proposals for the positions of prosecutor general and deputy prosecutor general, chief prosecutor and deputy chief prosecutors of DNA, as well as chief prosecutor and deputy chief prosecutors of DIICOT.
What did Nicușor Dan say about the appointments from the Prosecutor's Office
The proposals of the Minister of Justice also had negative reactions among public opinion, including a protest organized on Friday, March 6, by several civic organizations in front of the Cotroceni Palace, during which President Nicusor Dan had a dialogue with the protesters.
“What I can tell you is that I will assume the appointments that I will sign, that is, the prosecutors that will be signed by me will have my signature,” said the head of state.
“I have a hundred times more information than you,” the head of state said.
“You will see the results of these appointments probably in six months from the moment they are appointed, because these people must come, get to know the institution and work with the people they find there. Also, what I can tell you is that I will periodically meet with them, with the heads of these institutions”, added Nicusor Dan.
According to Law 303/2022, the President of Romania can refuse, with reasons, the appointment to management positions, making the reasons for the refusal known to the public. The decree of the president on appointment to office or his reasoned refusal is issued within 60 days at most from the date of submission of the proposal by the Minister of Justice.
Also, in the case of issuing a negative opinion of the Section for Prosecutors of the CSM, the Minister of Justice organizes a new exclusive interview with the candidate who received a negative opinion and following this interview, the Minister of Justice can continue the procedure by sending to the President of Romania the proposal for appointment to the management position, accompanied by all relevant documents, or withdraw the proposal, triggering a new selection procedure in a maximum of 60 days.
The positions of general prosecutor and chief prosecutor of DNA remain vacant starting from March 31, and that of chief prosecutor of DIICOT – from April 14.
