At the end of 2025, Poles had PLN 81.3 billion in financial arrears, PLN 3.5 billion less than in 2024 – according to data from BIG InfoMonitor and the BIK database. The average debt per person is almost PLN 34,000. PLN, compared to PLN 33.4 thousand PLN a year earlier.


According to the data of the BIG InfoMonitor Debtor Register and the BIK credit database at the end of December 2025, almost 2.4 million people had a total of over PLN 81.3 billion in outstanding liabilities. In 2025, over 140,000 people disappeared from both bases. debtors (5.5%), and a year earlier 129 thousand (4.8%). The amount of arrears also decreased – in 2025 by nearly PLN 3.5 billion (4%).
“The decrease in the number of unreliable debtors is visible in all age groups, as is the decrease in the value of their outstanding liabilities. Despite the improvement, unpaid debt remains most concentrated among middle-aged people. The gender structure has remained stable for a long time – approximately 63% of unreliable payers are men, and 37% are women,” emphasized Paweł Szarkowski, president of BIG InfoMonitor, quoted in the report.
The report shows that the average debt per person is almost PLN 34,000. PLN, compared to PLN 33.4 thousand PLN a year earlier and PLN 31.3 thousand PLN two years ago. This means that although there are fewer debtors, those who remain in both databases have more and more problems with timely servicing their obligations.
The Index of Overdue Payments of Poles (IZPP) developed by BIG InfoMonitor and BIK shows the share of unreliable debtors per 1,000 adult residents. At the end of 2025, it reached the lowest reading in years – 77.9 points – this level last occurred in 2017. This indicator varies significantly in individual voivodeships, ranging from 43 to 104 points in the regions.
The report states that last year the number of unreliable debtors per 1,000 adult inhabitants decreased in all voivodeships. The best results are in Podkarpacie, where only 43 out of 1,000 people over 18 years of age have problems with repaying their debts. The most indebted people are in the Lubuskie Voivodeship – with a ratio of 104 people.
Mazovia is the most indebted region with a sum of nearly PLN 16.3 billion. The next places are taken by Silesia (PLN 9.2 billion) and Lower Silesia (PLN 7.3 billion). The lowest amounts of arrears are recorded by residents of the following voivodeships: Świętokrzyskie, Opole and Podlaskie, where unpaid debts currently do not exceed PLN 1.7 billion.
The authors of the report pointed out that although the improvement in financial condition is visible in all age groups, the most unreliable debtors are still among people aged 35-44 – nearly 610 thousand people who own PLN 19.1 billion of unpaid debts. In second place is the age group 45-54 years old – nearly 552,000. debtors, but this group has the largest total value of outstanding debt, reaching PLN 26.3 billion.
“Against this background, in terms of the rate of decline in the number of people with arrears, the best performers were people aged 25-34 – their number decreased by 7.4 percent (-34 thousand). The slowest decline was among the youngest adults, i.e. 18-24 years old – their number decreased only by 1.4 thousand people (-1.2 percent)” – it was reported.
