Romania will have a budget in March, says President Dan. Guarantees received from coalition leaders

President Nicușor Dan said that the budget for 2026 will be adopted during this month. “I say it with all responsibility,” said the head of state.

Nicușor Dan said that there is no question that the deadlock in the coalition on the state budget will be extended, with Parliament adopting it by the end of March.

“These are issues of an executive-parliamentary nature, but after discussing with the representatives of each party in the coalition, I say it with all responsibility, Romania will have a budget in March. The parties have some people who say things about each other, but Romania will have a budget”, declared Nicușor Dan, in a press conference held on Thursday evening in Warsaw.

He lamented the delays so far in adopting the budget, saying that it should have been voted on as early as November or December.

Message for PSD: “Less media turbulence”

Regarding the PSD's demands for the adoption of “solidarity measures”, the president said it was “a legitimate debate”, but it should have taken place three months ago. On the other hand, Nicușor Dan does not believe that the social democrats will withdraw from the government due to disputes over the budget.

“In normal conditions, in peace, in a country with fiscal stability, the budget is a very important law, and for a party that legitimately represents a category of people, it can be a reason if it does not satisfy your political vision, but we are not there, with a war on the border,” commented the head of state.

Dan also called on the Social Democrats to ensure that discussions about leaving the government or changing the prime minister take place without “media turbulence”.

“Let's first close the discussion with the budget and then obviously there are decisions, contradictions, sometimes on a personal level between the parties in the coalition. It is better that this type of decision is taken without a big public exposure in order not to worry society and the financial markets. Democratic, every party is free to do it. If they could with less media turbulence, it would be better”, said Nicușor Dan.
