The Jagiellonian Club is a non-partisan political environment that aims to maintain and spread the republican way of thinking about Poland and the world. It was founded in 1989 in Kraków. The latest data from the Central Statistical Office leave no doubts: the rate of depopulation in Poland is accelerating. With a low birth rate and a shrinking group of people of working age, the country's demography is facing one of the greatest challenges of recent decades. The Jagiellonian Club proposes a new way to fight the demographic decline in Poland. As its representatives emphasize, programs that are supposed to support the number of births in the country, such as 800 plus or “Active parent” (commonly called “grandmother's program”), do not produce any results.

“We are debating the idea of abolishing the universality of the 800 plus child benefit and the 'Active Parent' benefit from 2027,” appeal the representatives of the Jagiellonian Club.

Instead, they propose a one-time payment of PLN 208,000. PLN 800 for parents within a month of the child's birth.
“This is the exact equivalent of the amount that parents can count on within 18 years of the child's birth under 800 plus (PLN 172,800) and “Active Parent” (PLN 36,000). To put it simply, in the long term it will simply balance the state budget. We will spend the same money, but perhaps more effectively,” explain the originators.

According to the club's representatives, the current programs, because they are “certainties”, do not have such an effective impact on demographics. “A fundamental change in the moment and method of withdrawing the same funds can create a new, completely different impulse,” they claim. In their opinion, a one-time payment of a large amount may convince some people to decide about parenthood.
The Jagiellonian Club emphasizes that the project it proposes for PLN 200,000. plus would be a basic program, but parents would have the choice of whether they want to use it or remain with the existing pro-family benefits.
