In over 40 thousand In Volvo EX30 models, the batteries may overheat, which in extreme cases may lead to fires, reports Reuters. Before replacement, the manufacturer recommends limiting charging and parking away from buildings.

The high voltage batteries installed in the unit turned out to be defective Volvo EX30, more precisely in the Single-Motor Extended Range and Twin-Motor Performance versionsin which batteries with a capacity of 69 kWh are installed. The defect was detected in 40,323 cars.

The faulty cells were manufactured by the Chinese joint venture Shandong GeelySunwoda Power Battery, supported by Geely, the owner of Volvo. However, as the manufacturer reassures us, the problem has been solved and defect-free batteries will be delivered soon.

The worldwide repair campaign will involve replacing faulty batteries. According to Reuters estimates, the replacement cost will cost up to USD 195 million, or nearly PLN 700 million.

Until you visit an authorized service station, the manufacturer recommends that owners of faulty vehicles limit battery charging to a maximum of 70%.which is to minimize the risk of overheating and fire, which will, however, significantly limit the range of the car and parking away from buildings.

Let us recall that the Volvo EX30, which hit Polish showrooms in mid-2023, was the third most frequently registered electric car in Poland the following year, second only to Tesla.
