G7 leaders, including US President Donald Trump, affirmed their “unwavering support for Ukraine in defending its territorial integrity and its right to exist”, in a statement released on Tuesday, marking four years since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
“We express our continued support for President Trump's efforts to achieve these goals by launching a peace process and getting the parties to engage in direct talks. Europe has a leading role to play in this process, together with other partners,” declared the heads of state and government of the G7, a group that brings together seven of the world's most advanced economies, namely the United States, France, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada and Japan, reports the France Presse agency.
It is the first joint G7 statement on Ukraine at the leaders' level since Donald Trump's return to the White House a year ago, France, which chairs this year's G7 meeting, points out.
