Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the West should focus on containing Russia, not on trying to please its leader Vladimir Putin, because he does not intend to voluntarily end the war. He has already started World War III, Zelensky said in an interview with the BBC.

“In my opinion, they (the West) should stop the Russians and not try to please them. Because they (the Russians) will lie anyway. They only care about themselves and their own interests,” the Ukrainian president said in the conversation.

Zelensky believes that Putin has actually already started World War III. “I believed and still believe that Putin has already started this war. And we are stopping him from a broader, full-scale World War III. Today we are at the forefront and we are stopping Putin,” he declared.

The President of Ukraine rejected proposals for territorial concessions to Russia in exchange for a temporary ceasefire. He explained that withdrawal from the remaining territories of the Donetsk Oblast would lead to a split in Ukrainian society and leave hundreds of thousands of people without help.

Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine counts on long-term security guarantees from the US, which should be approved at the Congress level and not depend solely on the personal position of a specific president. (PAP)
