A dog from a neighborhood in Louisville, Kentucky, helped authorities find a missing 3-year-old boy in a dramatic rescue caught on police body cameras, reports CBS News.

The incident happened last month, but the images were made public as recently as February 9.

More than six officers from the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department responded on Jan. 7 after being notified of a missing toddler. They launched an emergency ground search operation with a drone and helicopter in an attempt to locate the child, the department said.

But the first hours of the search yielded no results. Until, seemingly out of nowhere, a dog appeared and began barking at one of the responding officers.

“As we were walking to the front of the house, the craziest thing happened. It was a dog,” said Officer Josh Thompson.

“He was barking at me like he was telling me to hurry up. He led me into the backyard. At that point I thought, OK, this kid is in the backyard,” the officer added.

And indeed, the dog led the officers straight to a car and sat against the back bumper. The child was in the car unharmed and was quickly returned to the family, police said.

“I don't think I've ever seen a happier kid in my life. He jumped out of the car, threw his arms around my neck and wouldn't let go,” Thompson said.

“I don't know where the dog came from, but it was a blessing from God that day,” he added.
