You don't need an oven to make these soft gingerbread cookies. Proven frying pan dough recipe

Ukrainian culinary Instagram blogger Yulia Mikulich told how to cook delicious gingerbread cookies in a frying pan without an oven.

Ingredients (for 10 pieces):

  • 80 g of ayran (or kefir, yogurt);
  • 80 g sugar;
  • 10 g vanilla sugar;
  • 40 g honey;
  • 30 g vegetable oil;
  • 0.5 tsp. cinnamon;
  • a pinch of salt;
  • soda – on the tip of a knife;
  • 1 tsp. baking powder;
  • 250 g flour;
  • lemon zest – optional;
  • powdered sugar for dusting.

Preparation

  1. In a saucepan, combine ayran, sugar, vanilla sugar and honey. Heat the mixture on the stove until warm until the sugar and honey are completely dissolved.
  2. Pour the mixture into a bowl, add vegetable oil, cinnamon, lemon zest and a pinch of salt. Stir.
  3. Add baking soda, baking powder and flour. Knead the dough. It should be soft and slightly sticky.
  4. Divide the dough into 10 parts. If the dough is very sticky, sprinkle it with flour or divide it with a spoon for convenience.
  5. Form into balls and flatten them to about 1cm thick.
  6. Heat a heavy-bottomed frying pan, line it with parchment paper and turn the heat to low.
  7. Place the gingerbread in the pan, cover with a lid and cook for six minutes on one side. Carefully turn over, add 1 tbsp. l. water around the edge of the pan, cover again and cook for another six minutes. Make sure that the gingerbread does not burn or remain pale.
  8. Remove the gingerbread from the pan, cover with a towel for 10 minutes, then sprinkle with powdered sugar.
  9. Store gingerbread cookies in a closed container.

The blogger recommended that after cooking, let the gingerbreads lie overnight in a closed container, or even let them sit overnight – during this time they will become even softer and tastier. The author of the recipe added that gingerbread cookies from this dough can also be baked in the oven.
