The lack of a sufficient number of experts on the market who can integrate an AI agent into an organization’s landscape is one of the barriers to widespread adoption of the technology.

Another obstacle is infrastructural: the smarter the agent system becomes, the higher the requirements for GPUs, the higher the cost of projects and the more difficult it is to calculate the return on investment. Such risk factors for innovation in the field of generative artificial intelligence were called Sergey Karpovich, deputy head of the T1 AI department (T1 IT holding).

Speaking at the conference “AI Banking-26: from Initiatives to System,” he emphasized that the market has already entered the stage of deep AI transformation, and the financial sector has become one of its drivers.

“In banks, solutions based on artificial intelligence were first implemented in IT departments: AI agents were entrusted with classifying requests, processing incidents and forecasting them – all processes for which speed and quality are critical. About a year ago, agents appeared in business units: services for automatically processing requests, generating messages and letters. And then – AI assistants in functional areas that were traditionally considered to be most controllable by humans, for example in financial control or in the formation of an investment portfolio,” said Sergei Karpovich.

At the same time, despite the availability of technologies for checking AI answers, it is impossible to completely abandon human participation in the near future, the expert is sure. In critical processes, responsibility for the decision made cannot be delegated to the system. In the longer term, Sergei Karpovich predicts the emergence of almost completely digital companies, in which a significant part of the operations will be carried out relying on AI services.

“Unless companies begin to reshape their operations to reflect current trends, they risk losing their competitive advantage. And we need to implement AI agents today, even if at the moment it seems that they can only slightly optimize costs. We have yet to evaluate real business effects,” Sergei Karpovich is sure.

The launch of pilot AI services in a limited scope and the personal example of managers, the expert believes, become the starting point for scaling up changes. It is the management team that must initiate these changes. Until top managers begin to use assistants and agents in their daily work, it is extremely difficult to understand their feasibility for business.
