Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu participated in the Vatican on Saturday in the funerals of Pope Francis. In a message published on Facebook, he described the Sovereign Pontiff as “a pastor and a leader” who “always took care of his fellows” and “always found relief for the sufferers.”

“With emotion and gratitude, I participated today, in the Vatican, in the funerals of Pope Francis. We said goodbye to a pastor and a leader, who with warmth, compassion and understanding has always taken care of his fellow citizens and has always found relief for the sufferers,” wrote Ciolacu.

The prime minister also reminded Pope Francis's visit to Romania, in 2019, which he said “will always remain in our memory.”

The interim president Ilie Bolojan and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emil Hurezeanu, were also part of the Romanian delegation.

In our country a national mourning day was decreed for today, April 26.

According to estimates, at least 400,000 people were present at the Vatican and on the streets of Rome on Saturday, to say goodbye to the one known as “Pope of the Poor”. Some came from other continents and remembered, for Hotnews, the lessons offered by Pope Francis they will always keep.

Leaders from over 150 countries participated in the Liturgy in Saint Peter Square.
