The head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, said on Thursday, answering a question related to the information that US President Donald Trump would analyze the possibility of targeted attacks against Iran, that “the region does not need a new war, reports Reuters, AFP and EFE, according to Agerpres.
“When it comes to attacks, I think the region does not need a new war,” Kallas said after a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels.
Regarding the European foreign ministers' decision to include Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on the EU's list of terrorist organizations due to the bloody repression of protests in Iran, Kallas emphasized that this decision places IRGC “on the same level” as the Islamic State, Hamas, Hezbollah or Al-Qaida, notes EFE.
“Those who act through terror must be treated as terrorists,” Kallas said.
Asked if this decision implies that the EU would support a potential US military intervention against Tehran, the head of European diplomacy stated that the designation of the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization means that EU member states “criminalize any activity or interaction with the terrorist organization” and increase the pressure on it, but “in terms of attacks, the region does not need a new war”, she emphasized.
