Alert in Năvodari after a female driver broke a gas pipe: 30 houses, evacuated. “Everybody was telling me to run”

Panic on Monday evening in Năvodari, after a 33-year-old driver lost control of the steering wheel and hit a gas pipe, cracking it. The residents of 30 houses fed by that pipeline were evacuated urgently, and the quick intervention of the authorities prevented a tragedy.

According to Năvodari City Hall, following the accident, ISU Dobrogea decided to evacuate the residents of the area – 50 adults and 5 children, until the gas leaks are fixed. “Crews from the Local Police and the National Police blocked pedestrian and car access to Ciocârliei street. At the moment, the Distrigaz teams intervened and stopped the supply of natural gas in the area“, the representatives of the City Hall sent.
People living in the area experienced moments of panic after the incident. “I heard a bang, I was in the house with the child and I went outside, everyone was telling me to run“, said one of the witnesses, according to Observer News.
“A crack and after that the gases were heard coming out of that pipe up. You panic. We live in Constanța, and the sister-in-law and the child were alone in the house, you have no idea what situation we were put in“, added the people of the area.
Emergency crews will check each house individually before allowing residents to return to ensure there is no gas build-up. The city hall asks citizens to avoid the area until the damage is completely repaired.
The driver was evaluated but refused transport to the hospital
The driver involved in the accident was evaluated on the spot by the medical team, but refused transport to the hospital. After the authorities ensured that there was no longer any risk, residents were able to return to their homes.
Gas alert in Bucharest as well
And in the Capital, residents of a neighborhood in the center of Bucharest were on alert after smelling a strong smell of gas and called 112. The intervention teams discovered a breakdown in an underground gas pipeline.
“We got out because we were scared and didn't know what was going on and we smelled gas. As soon as the smell of gas was felt, the police came, then the firemen, the gas workers came too”the locals said.
Fortunately, in this case too the problem was resolved quickly and the residents returned safely to their homes.
